°ÍÀè·èÂíÐã is a vibrant and diverse academic community with a rich history and excellent local and international reputation. Since its founding in 1851, the College has valued and fostered a high level of academic achievement with some 2,400 currently registered students, 450 of whom live at the College. The °ÍÀè·èÂíÐã campus grounds comprise spectacular historic buildings, and a soon-to-open sustainability building. The College is the smallest college on the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto, located in the central Toronto downtown core, steps from the Bloor – St. George subway station and Queen’s Park.

Position Summary
°ÍÀè·èÂíÐã is embarking on an exciting period of renewal, growth, and sustainability leadership — and we are seeking a strategic, forward‑thinking Director, Facilities & Infrastructure to help shape the next chapter of our campus.

The Director leads the stewardship and evolution of Trinity’s built environment, balancing the care of cherished heritage facilities with the transformation of a modern, sustainable campus. This role is responsible for creating a safe, efficient, accessible, and inspiring environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

The Director oversees a diverse portfolio of historic and modern facilities totaling approximately 390,000 square feet across the existing Trinity campus and will play a pivotal role in commissioning and operating the new Lawson Centre for Sustainability—a 155,000+ square-foot, mass-timber facility targeting LEED Platinum and zero-carbon standards, and serving as a cornerstone of the College’s long-term sustainability vision.

The role requires a collaborative leadership approach, a strong commitment to health and safety, and the application of industry best practices aligned with Trinity’s sustainability goals and institutional values.

Managing a multi departmental portfolio that includes unionized and non-unionized staff as well as numerous external contractors, the Director provides strategic oversight of capital planning, project delivery, and operations across facilities and space planning, design and construction, capital renewal, maintenance, energy management, and campus safety.

Purpose & Key Accountabilities

Strategic and Operational Leadership

  • Lead long‑term facilities and infrastructure planning, including capital strategy, lifecycle management, and major repair and deferred maintenance priorities that support the College’s mission and campus development goals.
  • Develop and update a “Deferred Maintenance Plan”.
  • Lead campus master planning initiatives, including integration of the Lawson Centre’s underground connections, courtyards, and circulation routes.
  • Provide strategic leadership and managerial oversight on all facilities and building infrastructure matters at the College.
  • Set proactive and strategic direction to the Facilities & Infrastructure team to ensure a safe, secure, comfortable, accessible and sustainable environment for living, working and learning.
  • Support and develop capacity building and succession planning within the division.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with staff, faculty, students, and external stakeholders to advance facilities operations, residence services, capital initiatives, sustainability goals, and institution‑wide risk and continuity planning.
  • Provide strategic advice and comprehensive reporting to senior leadership and College governance bodies, including updates on facilities operations, sustainability performance, risk, budgets, and capital project progress.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on multi-year operating and capital budgets, including variance analysis, efficiency initiatives and compliance with eligibility criteria and deadlines for special-purpose or restricted funding.
  • Ensure institutional compliance with all applicable fire, building, environmental, accessibility, and workplace safety regulations, maintaining awareness of evolving standards and best practices
  • Provide guidance to budget holders to meet targets without negatively impacting service delivery.
  • Provide strategic leadership for campus safety and emergency preparedness, including development of best‑practice health and safety policies and coordinated security, emergency response, and incident‑management processes.
    Sustainability, Energy & Environmental Stewardship
  • Lead sustainability and carbon-reduction initiatives, in operations and infrastructure.
  • Support LEED and Zero Carbon certification efforts and reporting.

Construction & Project Management

  • Manage renovations, retrofits, and new construction while balancing heritage preservation with sustainability requirements.
  • Act as owner’s representative on major capital projects.
  • Maintain a current knowledge base of building codes, relevant legislation, City by-laws and building rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a current knowledge base of engineering standards, approaches, new and emerging technologies and practices.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or related field.
  • Professional certification (LEED AP, PMP or other relevant designation) is an asset.

Experience

  •  A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in a major institution sector, such as postsecondary education, school board, municipal government, service industry, medical/hospital, including relevant experience in a complex operational setting, including the leadership and supervision of unionized employees.
  • Heritage stewardship experience managing historic or architecturally significant buildings.
  • Sustainable building expertise with high-performance systems and certification pathways (LEED, Zero Carbon).
  • Extensive experience in HVAC, energy management, building automation systems and carbon reduction best practices and reporting. Experience with solar generation, battery storage systems, demand response programs, and utility peak usage rate structures.
  • Experience in the development and management of large, multi-million dollar, complex resource allocations/budgets, including monitoring and control techniques, in a funding challenged, service-oriented, public institution.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities to support strategic decision‑making in a complex facilities environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including unionized and non‑unionized teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including strategic thinking, adaptability, and commitment to sustainability and team development.
  • Strong conflict‑resolution skills to address issues with staff, contractors, and campus partners constructively.
  • Ability to develop clear policies, procedures, and operational frameworks aligned with institutional goals.
  • Familiarity with public‑sector procurement processes and contract management principles.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully within culturally diverse environments, with a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, human rights, and intercultural communication.

Normal daytime hours with flexibility and occasional evenings/weekends as required
